Getting the most from your Marlow Dockline

Marlow’s latest innovation in the Leisure Marine industry is the pioneering eco-conscious BLUE OCEAN Dockline made from 100% waste plastic bottles.  Launching this new rope meets a variety of demands that Marlow, as a world-leading Leisure Marine brand, are keen to encourage in the rope manufacturing industry.  Further information on these are set out in our Environmental Policy and objectives.

An important part of Marlow’s environmental commitment is the work we do to educate both our customers and end users on best practice when using, storing and retiring our ropes. As a quality, premium product, and when used and managed correctly; our ropes will last longer than your average rope, and we are keen to share our 200+ years of knowledge and expertise in this area to help you get the most from your rope products.  Our nationwide UK Rope-Shows will teach you a variety of ways to maximise performance and prolong their life, along with practical workshops on splicing, so do make sure you sign up to a venue near you.

In the meantime, as we have our new eco-conscious Dockline front of mind at the moment, we thought we would share some simple tips on how you can maintain your rope at its best:

  1. WASH THE SALTWATER OUT OF YOUR DOCKLINE ONCE EVERY MONTH BY SOAKING IT IN A BUCKET OF FRESHWATER.
  2. WHEN WASKING YOUR ROPE, DON’T SCRUB IT WITH ANYTHING ABRASIVE AS THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ROPE FIBRES, LEADING TO EXTERNAL ABRASION.
  3. WHEN STORING YOUR DOCKLINE, KEEP IT OUT OF THE SUN AND CORRECTLY COILED TO AVOID ABRASION CAUSED BY UV.  COILING WILL AVOID PUTTING UNECESSARY TWIST INTO THE ROPE, WHICH CAN LEAD TO INTERNAL ABRASION.
  4. SPLICE INSTEAD OF KNOT. A WELL SPLICED ROPE RETAINS 90% STRENGTH WHEREAS A KNOT CAN REDUCE STRENGTH BY UP TO 50%.
