Hempel World Cup Series Success for Marlow Rigged Athletes

The beginning of February marked the end of the 2019 Hempel World Cup Series in Miami for a host of international Marlow-rigged athletes and Sailing Ambassadors.  The week saw many ups and downs across the various classes, with many wins and a number of challenges.  There is no question that the fierce competition and tenacious international teams are gearing up to the 2020 Olympics on the Road to Tokyo.

A summary of the news coming out from our Marlow-rigged teams is as follows:

BRITISH SAILING TEAM

  • 49er’s Fletcher/Bithell recovered from a false start to win silver.

“It was a difficult situation for us today with the German team coming after us. We had a game plan – unfortunately we were over the line but age and wisdom has taught us to go back. After that the results were set and we had to settle for silver. It’s a great start to the 2019 season leaving us hungry for gold as we progress to the European regattas.” Dylan Fletcher

  • Medal hopes for 49er Peters/Sterrit 49er ended by being over line at start; handed maximum points to finish 5th overall

  • Dobson/Tidey held onto bronze in tense light-wind 49er FX battle 

  • Patience/Grube achieved 13th overall in 470

  • Peach/Hawes achieved 30th overall in 49er

 

US SAILING TEAM

  • Silver medal claimed by Radial sailor Paige Railey

  • Bronze medal claimed by Finn sailor Luke Muller who recovered well after early penalties pushed him to the back of the fleet

  • Nacra 17 team Gibbs/Weis claimed 15th place overall

  • 49er FX team Roble/ Shea claimed 9th place overall 

 

FRENCH SAILING TEAM

  • Nacra 17 team Quentin Delapierre and Manon Audinet calimed 11th place overall

  • Jeremie Mion and Kevin Pepponet 470 achieved 7th place overall

  • RSX athlete Charline Picon won bronze
