It’s a question, we all would like to know and in this informative Technical film, Marlow Ropes inspects and tests the ropes that made the 47,000 nautical miles around the Globe on the 2017-18 edition of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The fleet of Clipper yachts were fully rigged using mostly D2 Racing, our superior Cruiser/Racer line, great for halyards, sheets and control lines, thanks to it’s Dyneema SK78 core, this rope is capable of extremely high breakloads and proves itself to be more than capable of circumnavigating the globe. The fleet also used D12 Max running rigging which used Dyneema SK99 and is used in lashings, strops, cascades and wire.

In this interesting rig inspection and break-testing technical film, Marlow’s David Mossman meets with Clipper’s Head of Maintenance, Simon Johnston to look at the ropes on the fleet following their return from the race finish at Liverpool,  pointing out some interesting cases of ware, and increasingly, a lack of.  The film then follows Marlow’s Technical Manager, Paul Dyer, back in the testing facility where they break a D12 Max Forestay Strop and D2 Racing Runner to test the amount of residual strength in the rope .
