New Sustainable All-Electric Catamaran
Marlow Ropes Grand Prix and Cruiser/Racer Series has been chosen as the premium rigging supplier for a new innovative all-electric Catamaran that maximises sailing and boat-building technology.
The Open Waters 40 uses Grand Prix design principles to provide the performance of a race boat but includes cruising sailing yacht specifications to allow for a greater range of uses. It leverages the latest in manufacturing techniques and materials like vacuum-infused carbon fiber, Dyneema standing rigging, and an aggressive North 3di sail plan, all resulting in the ability to achieve 20+ knots in even moderate winds. Retractable daggerboards give you upwind performance you want while also giving you the ability to cruise in very shallow waters. In short, you’ll be able to win on the race course and also win with your family. (Simon Angus, OpenWaters Yachts)
Fully rigged by Marlow using Dyneema SK99 Max 17mm standing rigging, D2 Racing and D12 Dyneema, the unique design and constuction has been manifested as a prototype boat ahead of further commissioning in the Caribbean this winter, before taking orders and starting production in 2022.
The fully sustainable emissions-free yacht gives higher performance and a  light weight build with an all-carbon construction and all-electric drive (no hybrid). It can also be shipped in a single 40ft container.
Rigged by Marlow through Marlow’s Canadian stockist Rekord Marine. For further information visit Open Waters Yachts.
