Sir Robin’s knots launch new Dare To Lead bursary fundraiser in Bermuda
Being a supply partner; the Official Rope Supplier! to the Clipper Race is wonderful, at Marlow we love this partnership. But it’s bigger than a race (albeit a huge race) and ropes; it’s the people behind Clipper Race and the causes they are passionate about that makes it special. This initiative is no exception.
Record breaking yachtsman Sir Robin Knox-Johnston has created three sailing knots that will be auctioned off to raise funds to help young people from challenging backgrounds benefit from personal development by participating in a leg of the Clipper Race.
Long-time Clipper Race supporter, and former crew member, Dirk van Daele, launched the project as part of the next phase of his Dare To Lead Clipper Race partnership at a special event in Bermuda during the latest fleet stopover. He spoke to crew, supporters and race officials at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club on Friday evening
“We want to see more young people from around the world benefit from the development potential of participating in a leg of the Clipper Race,” Dirk said. “In addition, it’s our ambition to continue with a Dare To Lead Team Partnership in future editions of the Clipper Race but our first priority is to raise funds for bursary places.
“So we are launching a series of digital online auctions to open this up to the world. Our first ‘lot’ so-to-speak is a series of sailing knots. Who better to launch this than the Clipper Ventures Chairman and Clipper Race Co-founder, Sir Robin Knox-Johnston.
