STRING! MAKES LOCAL MARLOW HISTORY INTO MUSICAL
September 20, 2021 | posted by Jon Mitchell
Marlow Ropes were pleased to host the launch of STRING! The Musical as part of September’s Hailsham Festival – an annual Arts Festival that celebrates the local community and the town’s heritage.
String! The Musical tells the story of Hailsham’s 200+ year history of rope-making, which is loosely based on Marlow’s history. Today Marlow still manufactures rope on the same site as Thomas Burfield who began rope-making for agriculture in the late 1790s – 1807. Following various mergers, acquisitions and take-over’s Marlow’s HQ is alive and thriving in Hailsham (affectionately known as StringTown), and proudly we are now known worldwide and our rope is distributed in over 80 countries.
The launch of STRING! took place in Marlow’s new showcase meeting space and was attended by the local community, councillors and the Mayor of Hailsham ahead of the Musical’s opening night two days later.
