Knot for the faint hearted – FIRST ZIP WIRE ACROSS THE THAMES

Marlow Ropes is at the center of a dare devil charity stunt, supplying the zip rope for the first ever zip line across the river Thames.
The event is the brainchild of the London Fire Brigade and is set to raise over £1 million for the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Marlow Ropes, MD, Jon Mitchell said: “We’re delighted to support the worthy cause of the Evelina Zip by supplying its most critical component – the zip line! Although this is a daring feat, our high strength D2 Racing 78 rope is more than up to the task and will ensure that all the brave zippers make it safely to the other side.”
Using 500 meters of specially manufactured DyneemaÒ synthetic fiber rope, the D2 Racing 78 rope is high strength and lightweight with good abrasion resistance and is capable of handling a load of 12 tons – the weight of approximately six cars.
Twenty brave participants will travel the 463 meters in ‘superman style’ – head first – reaching up to 40 mph on route from the roof of St Thomas’ Hospital to Victoria Tower Gardens by the Houses of Parliament.
