LEARN HOW PIP HARE PREPARES FOR THE VENDEE GLOBE

As Pip Hare prepared for the Vendee Globe 2024 Challenge her meticulous attention to detail and relentless pursuit of excellence are evident in every aspect of her preparations. One of the key elements of her success is her collaboration with Marlow Ropes, whose innovation have given Pip the confidence to push her yacht harder.

Innovative Solutions for Optimal Performance

Pip’s recommendations for Marlow Ropes have been instrumental in optimizing her sailing experience. The use of SK99 has allowed her to spec thinner diameter lines than traditional options, greatly reducing friction and weight around the IMOCA. This translates into less of Pip’s energy being wasted during manoeuvres, allowing her to focus on making the boat go fast.

For tasks where low stretch is of imperative, such as tack lines, Pip relies on D12 Max 99cores. This option ensures that tension is paramount to sail trim, handling loads of up to 3 tonnes and requiring trimming increments of 10 millimetres or less. Additionally, the integration of MGP Tech 50 as a cover into runner tails aids both winch drum grip and heat resistance, allowing Pip to change the runner trim under high load.

A Comprehensive Approach to Sailing

Pip’s preparations for the Vendee Globe Challenge are not just about the ropes. Her sheets are built from a selection of different cover types, including a Dyneema® anti-chafe cover that reduces friction and chafe where the sheet runs through trim rings, sheaves.  The PBO/Technora blend further reduces heat-related chafe while aiding good winch grip. The addition of lightweight tails also contribute to less weight in the cockpit.

“When you take on a race like the Vendée Globe, you need to know that your boat and your equipment will be able to perform for three months in the most difficult conditions. Working with Marlow, I know they pay as much attention to their rope development and the reliability of their products as I do to my boat and my body. In Marlow, we found a partner who pays attention to the small details, providing ropes that are strong, light, and will endure three months of non-stop hard work. I can trust these with my life and my races.”
